CLASS OVERVIEW
• Saturday classes (8:00AM – 6:00PM)
 (Sunday classes upon request with a group of 5 or more)

WHAT TO BRING
• Handgun you would like to use. Must be at least .32 caliber center fire. Your handgun will be inspected by instructor and allowed only if deemed safe.
NOTE: If you qualify with a revolver, all you can carry is a revolver. We recommend qualifying with a semi auto.
• Semi automatic handguns can be borrowed if needed. ($25 Cleaning Fee. Notify Instructor prior to class)
• 50 rounds of ammunition (NO RELOADS)
• Mandatory eye and ear protection
• Range fees

CLASS OUTLINE

I. Introduction to course (1 Hour)

Objective: Students will be informed of course content and the proficiency level for them to attain certification (70% on the written exam and 70% [or min. 175pts. out of a poss. 250] on the shooting proficiency).

II. Use of Force/Public contact with Law Enforcement (3 Hours)

Objective: The student will develop a basic understanding of, respect for, and application of the legal authorities pertaining to the rights of citizens regarding the use of force.

III. Non - Violent Dispute Resolution (2 Hours)

Objective: The student will be able to identify the three ego states that exist within all of us. The student will also be able to recognize the most effective ego state for conflict resolution.

 

IV: Weapon Storage/Safety Practice (1 Hour)

Objective: This course will provide information that will emphasize firearms safety and storage practices that will minimize the possible injury to a child.

 

V. Range Safety, Basic Marksmanship, Handgun use and evaluation (2 Hours)

Objective: Although many applicants will have a fundamental knowledge of firearms, a basic course on marksmanship, handgun use and safety will insure everyone receives the same information and will help increase the level of safety when the applicant gets to the range. This will also give the instructor an opportunity to inspect the applicant’s handgun to insure it is in safe working condition.

 

VI. Handgun Proficiency (3 Hours)

Objective: Insure the applicant can demonstrate a good basic understanding of handgun safety, use, and marksmanship. The applicant will shoot from the three, seven, and fifteen yard line in a standard course of fire and will be required to attain a minimum of seventy percent.

 

VII. Concealed Handgun Licensee Requirements and Restrictions (2 Hours)

Objective: Give a brief overview of the application process, and a more in depth look at the requirements and restrictions of being a licensee.

 

VIII. Final Exam and Certification (1 Hour)

Objective: This should demonstrate each applicant has received and understands basic required information. Those who fail to demonstrate this knowledge will require remedial training, and will not be certified until they can demonstrate knowledge and proficiency at minimum standards set by the Department.
